Holoptica is the only hologram manufacturer capable of producing several unique OVD technologies — from bespoke hot-stamped foils to two patented features found nowhere else in the industry.
An OVD — an Optically Variable Device — is a security feature that changes appearance depending on the angle it's viewed from: the classic hologram effect. It's the first thing a customs officer, retailer or customer checks, because it needs no tools, no app and no training to recognise.
Where a printed hologram can be photographed and reprinted, a genuine OVD can't — the optical structure itself carries the security, not the ink sitting on top of it. Holoptica designs and originates every OVD in-house, which is what lets us build features competitors can't reproduce, like the two patented technologies below.
Every OVD starts as a bespoke design — built for a specific brand, document or licence, not pulled from a stock catalogue.
Applied directly to packaging, labels and documents by hot stamp or cold transfer, in a wide range of formats and finishes.
Fully bespoke design options, including e-beam origination — from a single registered emblem to a continuous guilloche wallpaper pattern.
Sections of the foil can be selectively de-metallised for a partially transparent effect, adding a further layer of security and a distinct look.
Every OVD Holoptica produces is built from a catalogued library of proprietary effects, grouped by how much effort is needed to check them — chosen and combined to match how much security a document or product actually needs.
No tools needed — designed to be checked by a shopper, retailer or customs officer at a glance.
Confirmed with a low-cost decoder, laser reader or magnifier — still no lab required.
Requires specialised equipment to observe — built for the cases that end up in court, not at the counter.
Two effects from this library have grown into patented technologies in their own right, each with a dedicated page: holoQR and holoCOMPASS.
